hawgtide said:Wonder what Coach Bryant would say about punting. Remember his first year when the quick kick was a major weapon. He had little offense and a hard nosed defense.(Does that sound familiar today). I remember a Georgia game, believe Ga was heavily favored, where the first play was an eight-yard gain and the second was a quick kick. I think he would say you use the best weapon in your arsenal. Right now, its not our offense.

BamaBlake said:just doing a little math here , and assuming the field was 100 yards long, with a play of 80 yds, we would have been inside the 20 . what would be the purpose of punting on 1st down inside the 20. are you sure that you've got your facts straight. even if we had a horrible offense i just can't believe that any coach would punt on first down inside the opposing teams 20 on the second play of the game right after an 80 yd play.
i know this really has nothing to do with this thread, but i just thought this post was interesting to say the least :conf2:

If you don't agree with him, retort with something that requires more thought than a canned insult.

A good punter can be a valuable weapon...
Not name calling just suggesting alternatives.....TIDE-HSV said:enough with the "ignorant sparring," and name-calling. Let's let it die. Don't resurrect it in quotes...

NYBamaFan said:We punted for two reasons:
First - Our defense was playing very well and we were going to get the ball back with plenty of time left on the clock - that worked...
Second - When the defense got the ball back for us, we would have decent field position, providing the offense with another chance to win the game - that worked...
By punting, we gave ourselves another chance to win. We lost, but not because we punted. .....
