Dylan Moses Returning

The letter is so crazy and error-filled that a cursory glance at Moses the Senior would be necessary. But I reckon nobody in journalism is paid enough to care that much. They just take garbage and forward it on to the masses...not really the function of journalism.

I agree that certain things should be vetted but this was posted to Dylan's social media so it's out there for the world to see. Is the media supposed to stick their head in the sand and act like it doesn't exist? It's pretty much SOP that anything posted to a player's social media account is then shared or re-posted by journalists as an FYI or this is what this player is putting out there..

Dylan's father either has an awesome sense of humor, or is very "different". Either way, I wouldn't assume that he and Dylan have a bad relationship.

And that is a bad standard operating procedure because I’m already on twitter dot com. I’m receiving the same geyser of crap they are. Their reason for existence, their value add to people like me, is to discern the truth and merit of happenings.

That was certainly the intent of the profession at its beginning. But the terms muckraking and yellow journalism have been around for over a 100 years. I'm not saying those terms define this current activity, just that journalism has been unwell for many many years.

The state of journalism is just abysmal. The way this story has been reported typifies several of the core problems.

Rushing to be the first to get twitter impressions because they’re gonna get fired when they’re up to get a raise so having metrics will help them get their next job. No fact finding, they just take data and forward data to audience. Effectively have turned themselves into sock puppets that people with power or repute can use to apply a megaphone to their thoughts.

These aren't investigative journalist - they're media members. Mostly beat writers who merely report on what they see and hear.

I haven't seen anyone "report a story." Media members have just made known what Dylan put on his social media to those who don't follow social media. Again, what's the problem here?

They’re clearly forwarding something that is more nuanced without doing even bare minimum work. We all just had an LSU fan drop an important nugget in interpreting this in our laps. It is a disservice to their audience to just take their geyser of crap and redirect it. Their reason for existence is to give us good information. I do not think this is good information without some qualification and concerns reported with it.

There are a number of articles out there with this as the center piece. One even says that they tried to contact the law firm and received no response, but they still had to get their article out there.

I don't have a problem with media folks tweeting this out. I do have a little bit of a problem with media folks writing stories based on this and nothing more. Why? Because it clearly could be just a joke. This is not a cut and dried tweet like that which came out from Dylan yesterday. This was written either tongue in cheek, or by someone with a tenuous grasp on reality.

Based on that filing that was linked.....I'll bet its someone with a tenuous grasp on reality. Edward Moses, seems like his reality could be....interesting.

Who wrote something that got you so upset? I have not seen a formal story or anything other than this is something that was posted to Dylan's account..

Maybe you guys follow different people than I do. Only thing I've seen in my feed is "hey, Dylan Moses posted this to his Instagram account."

Saturday Down South and CollegeFootballTalk did a great job of making clear that this could be a joke. TideSports did not.

Tuscaloosa News has had several instances I’m familiar with in varying degrees where their beat guys were basically just sock puppets. Less than worthless. They did it again with this one.

Their brain drain is real and that paper is damn near worthless now.

And to be clear, not gloating, just trying to help you see that his dad has expressed craziness before. This is a copy and paste from a good friend of mine (from midwest, small college player/graduate) who is a defense lawyer in NOLA:

We just completed a case with Dylan Moses’ dad, attorney Edward Moses, that needlessly lasted several years and resulted in a defense judgment. During most of the litigation, I erroneously believed that Edward was merely one of the worst attorneys I had ever encountered, but I failed to realize that he was a self-styled monarch and semi-deity whose son is an extremely gifted linebacker.

I'm not making fun of that man's father.
I've not really noticed that anyone has. Ridiculing mental illness is not something we allow here. The gentleman is obviously suffering from a mental disorder. No one files what he filed with the Circuit Court of Appeals who is mentally sound. His delusions are apparently pretty well-known. It's really sad, in the end. I'm sure Dylan is very attached to and forgiving, understanding of his father's problems. That would be typical of this sort of situation. At the same time, I feel that he is likely accustomed to having to make his own decisions. I'd be very surprised if the father has a lot of impact. The LA bar needs to do its duty and suspend his license on grounds of disability. Unfortunately, he can keep on filing on his own behalf, which is what the CCA considered his appeal to have been, since the appellant was made up out of whole cloth. This type of foolishness is a waste of precious legal resources, the financial support for which has become very difficult to obtain...
