Oh and I agree. But, it’s not just about statues if you start looking past the cleansing of public spaces and start looking at the ideology of th current fringe movements like LatinX as as an example. They are garnering their own curriculum at the university level. Other minority studies Are being taught to ask for reparation, etc.... So there is this whole other fold to this issue that is happening in schools. You can look through any university catalog online and find these classes. You can look through professional educator organizations and you can find these same themes of Decolonizing the Curriculum. So it isn’t statues alone, but it’s just the beginning.
It's still a country with a majority of colonizers... :)

Cultural Marxism comes in many formats and disguises. Even Liberation Theology is based in Marx. I had the best Marxist professors in the country at FSU!

Oh I had a Marxist professor at Bama in the '50s. He was laughed at behind his back. He thought he was being sly when he'd begin with "But there are different ways of doing things"...

But, when does "My History" become "Our History"?
Think different. Just do it. Because you’re worth it. The San Francisco Treat. I’m lovin’ it. It’s finger licking good. We are Farmers. The Best a Man Can Get.

I think this thread is just for repeating slogans over & over. My apologies if it’s not but it seemed like it was.

The most interesting places I've visited boast a rich visual history. The Colosseum and Roman Forum ... the Acropolis in Athens... Hagia Sofia in Istanbul ... Old Bagan, Myanmar... Angkor Wat in Cambodia. The most fascinating area of Moldova for me was Transnistria, precisely because statues of Lenin survived the fall of the Soviet Union.

I would have loved to see the United States develop its own rich visual history, with each generation adding perspective to the tapestry of tolerance and progress. Instead it seems our fate is to go a very different -- and much more common -- direction.

Yes, something important is lost when intolerant violent mobs (the Taliban, ISIS, and others today in our country) destroy irreplaceable evidence of our past. Violence and ignorance are never wise choices, and what's happening now is comparable to burning piles of "offensive" books.

Recently in Martinique the mob destroyed statues of French abolitionist Victor Schœlcher, who authored the decree that abolished African slavery in France’s colonies. Ironically the mob's stated cause was "Pan-Africanism." I've visited regions of Africa where slavery is still widely practiced today. Slavery was criminalized in Mauritania in 2007, but sadly some 15% of the population is still living in slavery.

Even Pol Pot did not raze ancient statues as he declared "Year Zero" of his communist utopia. He simply started out with the mass murder. When I toured Cambodia I was amazed that such a groupthink horror as the Khmer Rouge could have occurred in modern times. But now I understand how it happens.

It will be interesting to see if the Confederate Monument in Phoenix continues to stand in the upcoming weeks.

The removal of statues has gone too far. I wonder how much the bots on social media, especially foreign ones, are behind it?
Excellent question and one which had crossed my mind also. They jump on any sign of conflict and try to magnify it. This one would be too good to pass up. The KGB has been doing this for decades and the SVR is just a relabeled KGB with updated modern weapons...

Russian Bots .... LOL! Those Russian Bots went to Lafayette Square and tried to take Andrew Jackson down last evening. *Not that I would be torn up.

Here is a "Russian Bot":

"Yes, I think the statues of the white European they claim is Jesus should also come down," King tweeted. "They are a form of white supremacy. Always have been."
