Government shutdown tonight?

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

So both democrats and republicans really are to "blame"?
Yes. I think it is stupid that Vets, active duty, VA nurses, and other government workers are without a paycheck but the old fat and decrepit slobs in Washington (who control their check) still get paid during a shutdown. Both sides need to grow up, and think big picture. If the Democrats want DACA so bad, then continue to block legislation other than people's pay like they have done the past year. Republicans need to tell the Tea Cuppers and the president to stop going full right with legislation. Point is no one looks good in a government shutdown, and I wish everytime the government does shutdown then 1/2 of Congress is randomly and instantly up for reelection.

To clarify: Dems tried to introduce legislation this morning that would halt Congress' pay, but ensure the military would continue getting paid. McConell blocked it.

Any 10 of those 42 remaining could have voted YES to ensure Vets, active duty, and other government workers were paid last night instead of voting on party lines to stick it to the republicans. I know you want to run the "damn the Republicans and the POTUS" campaign, but this is clearly both parties fault and it isn't even remotely debatable. It was stupid when the Tea Cuppers did it and it is just as stupid now when the DACAcrats did it. Shutting down the government because of a disagreement of politics is both moronic and childish. We need better senators and representatives.

The bill wasn't as simple as you make it, and you know it. But the bill this morning was exactly that simple. Dems proposed it. The GOP blocked it.

I'm referring more to employees that through no fault of their own (they didn't balloon the government up to it's bloated status) are now facing a lot of uncertainty about money, bills, stress, etc. I know because my father went through it before. And while they usually get backpay even though it's not guaranteed, the bills still keep coming and the stress doesn't stop.

So a bit more than just foodstamps are impacted.

gummint workers are the same as welfare mooches

Some Democrats are refusing to pass the bill because of DACA which has nothing to do with spending. Sometimes it is only republicans fault but this time it is both parties.

yeah, no. the last few cr's have been passed on the promise that daca would be dealt with. bi-partisan legislation that would pass was presented and shot down at the s-hole meeting (that's what the whole s-hole meeting was about). it was (like everything else feces midas touches) turned upside down by mr deal maker.

both sides is a hell of a drug

As someone who is no more a "fan" of democrats than I am republicans, please tell me how this falls on the democrats when republicans control both houses and the White House. IOW, republicans don't need a single democrat vote to pass legislation and still can't - or won't - get it done.

i hope you are prepared to have your mind blown

Simple as government workers and beneficiaries getting paid for a YES vote. That is simple and you know it, and I know if this was the Tea Cuppers doing it again then you would be all up and arms about it.

A term limit of one term per office (with five years of staying out of Washington between federal offices) would solve a lot of this as well.

A plague on both their houses. Crap like is makes me glad I don't have a party be "loyal" to.

They actually need 10 democrats as it takes 60 votes to pass budget legislation.

He plays to an even dumber crowd that laps it up like any good con man.

they are stupid, frightened people. Terrified of absolutely anything that doesn't look and act just like them and fully ready to hand power over to a liar who they think just might be able to protect them from everything that fox news tells them they should be scared of. Pathetic
