Link: Jalen Milroe Working on His Throwing Mechanics.

Yes, the same guy who should have had us 4 TD's ahead of a terrible aubren team instead of throwing a miracle to win it.
IMO, it's unfair to put the poor performance on JM. The D was bad and bad snap issues reappeared, as well as some misfortune that was out of JM's hands. Jalen played well, 16-24 259, 10.8 YPA, 2 TDs and 0 ints, 107 yards rushing, no fumbles, but there were other issues such as yielding 244 rushing yds. But the bottom line is that he did not panic and made a great play, no transcendent play, when desperately needed.

I know Jalen has weaknesses, including serious ones, but come on, at least give him credit when it is due. Many seem all or nothing with him and it's unfair - he's the ALABAMA QB. With that play, he gave Alabama a CFP berth, an SEC title, and a win for the ages in J-H. It was a great throw in the most trying circumstances imaginable.

It is beginning to look like Jalen will be our starting QB, despite his shortcomings. If so, after Spring Practices we will likely hear the theme music from EXODUS. :(

If so, not one, but TWO staffs will have thought that he was better than any other QB on campus; so, there are two ways to look at things at that point:

1) All the QBs on campus are good and he is the best of them, which means the previous staff did a heck of a job evaluating, recruiting, and developing QBs or

2) None of the QBs on campus are good and he is the best of them, which means the previous staff did a horrible job of evaluating, recruiting, and developing QBs.

I hope it's #1.

The only reason we were in the game at the end was Jalen Milroe. He wasn't perfect, but he made play after play after play.
This is absolute bullcrap and you know it. He didn’t even know where the line of scrimmage was for crying out loud.

Mac Jones or Bryce Young would have carved up the Barn’s defense. Jalen Milroe sucks, but people are too scared to admit it.

Actually I think the over-analysis is jumping to think JM might as well be considered the starter right now because the coach sees he's got muscles, can run fast and can throw it a long ways.

At the REC event the only quarterback any of the coaches ever mentioned by name was Mack. I mean does that mean Mack is going to be the starter because he is the only one being talked about? No

I think Milroe has probably QB1 going into the spring but I also think it’s foolish to just assume just because CKD is talking about him that it’s his to lose as well. Mack is also a guy who has been in KD’s system that could be the next Trevor Lawrence of college football with his height and decision making skills. I don’t know how much you hold him back with the talent at skill position that we will have this year.

so it's only one throw and a very limited sample - observations:

The good - he's putting in the work. I'm not sure that's ever been a question though.

The unknown - with the angle, can't really see much of the throwing motion to see if he's getting over some of the mechanics challenges.

The not good - the 'snap' is already in the air at the start of the video, and from the start of the video to when JM releases the ball is over 3.5 seconds (timed multiple times and averaged) so the real clap to release time would be 3.6(ish) more than likely. That's slow; really, really slow. At least on this clip, he's not working on his biggest weakness, which is getting the ball out faster. With what he's doing (simulated read of one side and flipping to the other), he should be closer to 2 seconds, max 2.5 in getting that ball away especially since the angle makes it look like it's a shorter throw. An elite receiver runs a LONG way in a second, and not having the timing right means windows that are open by play design are closed in that amount of time. That was one of JMs biggest liabilities last year and a major reason why he was not able to run the offense as it was originally designed. maybe he's working on that as well, but it certainly doesn't show up in this clip.

Can Milroe be the quarterback? Yes

Will he? Who knows.

In a pass heavy offense you need a quarterback who can read, is willing to make mistakes, and can find a TE or/and RB as a safety valve. Milroe struggled in all 3 aspects.

Regardless who our quarterback is to start the year, we will probably light up everyone for the first 4-5 games with talent like Justice and Hollywood. My concern is whether or not we have a quarterback in game 6-12 that can adjust after some defensive coordinator takes those options away from them. Our season could become “Can X find the TE and coverage presnap”

interesting. McElroy made a very similar comment last week on his show with Cubelic. JM was among the slowest in Division 1 football last year. He stated that he should be getting it out in 2.5 seconds or less.

It WAS team politics. The offense picked their guy and refused to play for anyone else. Just go watch the USF game.
Where is this narrative coming from? I’ve seen people with no sources repeating it on message boards but I’ve never seen or even heard anyone with any real knowledge of the situation comment on it.

I don't know who took it there, but it definitely wasn't me. I was basing it on his footwork, throwing mechanics and hearing that he has been wor
I missed your post earlier. I don't think this was ever intended to be a debbie downer post/thread about JM.

But the OP was ONLY about his improved throwing motion which naturally means nothing unless he develops in other areas, which is where the thread eventually started going.
Your posts are reasonable. I was talking about others.
