I'll chime in that my Volt gets about 105 mpg(e) as it's an electric drive hybrid. So, for the first 53 miles +/- 10 it gets 105 mpg(e) on electric charged primarily by the solar on my roof. The Volt drops to ~38 mpg on gas only if we go further than 50 ish miles. I go weeks to months without ever filling up and when I do, I wait until the prices are lower or I need to go out of town. So far, we're averaging 84 mpg for 40,000 miles.

Plus the fun part, the Volt drops pretty much any gasoline only car off of the line unless they are burning their tires.

I hope to NEVER own a gas only car again, as I can plug the car into any 110V outlet and get power for driving.

The price gap between regular and premium gas has gotten larger. It used to be pennies; now in Bazza’s previous post the gap is $.75. I don’t know how they sell premium gas anymore. Personally, I won’t buy a car that uses only premium. For my truck, premium would cost $10-12 more every time I filled up.

I wish someone would explain to me why diesel is more expensive than regular.

It's simple, the revenue cycle is longer for diesel than gasoline. In other words, diesel drivers don't have to return to the pump as soon as gasoline drivers, so while they are at the pump, they're going to get their money. Interestingly the price difference between the 87 octane and diesel (pictured below) is approximately 24%...

Man, there are too many reptiles in Florida. A friend of mine moved to just north of Panama City about five years ago. A mutual friend and I went to visit him in October. He frequently encounters snakes, one while we were visiting.

Of course, we have them here in Tennessee to, but not as many. We control the snakes on our property with cats.

In 2006 refiners were required to provide low sulfur diesels. More processing cost. Diesel was lower regular until then, a few seasonal fluctuations excepted. Diesel also carries a higher tax. And the diesel market is tight, partly because Europe uses a lot of diesel in automobiles and trains.

On Sunday, I found a harmless corn snake in our garden. As I was carrying him to turn loose in the preserve on the other side of the house I noticed in the pond behind our house that a juvenile grey heron was riding on the back of an alligator. I wish I had a camera in my hands instead of the corn snake. All it could think was, "Well, this is Florida." :)
