Questions about Milroe.

I think we can still win with Milroe but the OC is going to have to earn his money. Designed runs and limited route trees is one way. Another way is an emphasis on RUNNING THE FLIPPING FOOTBALL.
But it won't be easy. Teams stack the line and force him to pass. Then he waits too long and gets sacked, or he is inaccurate (when compared to our last four (if not six) quarterbacks).

I think that our receivers and especially running backs are much better than their numbers indicate. I also think that the OL is very good but again, opposing defenses can jam the line of scrimage and dare Milroe to pass.. They don't seem to think that Milroe can burn them with short or medium range quick passes. Are they correct?

I think that it is time for Simpson but this is just my opinion as a fan, not an all knowing proclamation.

ROLL TIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Considering the team around him he's one of the greats in college football history.

It was the perfect storm for the Barn that year... $cam was bottled lightning at the QB position... They had cheap shot dude (Fairley I think?) on the DL who was a bonafide disruptor and a pretty solid RB in Dyer. Surrounding those three were like 20 seniors who had been in the program for years and provided a solid if average support group.

Sigh…

Brady Cook is doubtful for the game. We’ll start Milroe, we’ll win the game, and his followers will be insufferable again. Can we PLEASE just move on and get Ty ready?

I just posted the same thing in another thread.

That’s a bad break for us because Mizzou won’t be as competitive to put stress on the QB situation to make a move.

We’ll still struggle but not enough to make a switch.

Then we’ll go to LSU and it will be Tenn Part 2 and a crowd going rabid and Ty not having the reps and experience from the Mizz game.

I honestly have a lot of favorites. But 2 guys who stick out for me are Rashad Johnson and Jake Coker.

Rashad Johnson was one of the first guys to buy in to “the process.” He worked his tail off, changed position a couple times, and went from a walk-on guy with almost no offers, to a NFL career.

Coker was never the most fundamentally sound QB- he had a massive wind up throwing motion, but the dude was a fighter and a baller and, at least from what I saw publicly, a humble guy. He was here for the team and loved the university and the program and then went to go manage hunting property in south Alabama, lol.

Great players and Coker is one of my favorites too… just a Tough QB.

My absolute 2 favorites are Mark Ingram and Smitty.

I just have a soft spot for undersized players who work hard and play with so much heart and the results are them being the MVP of the team and the Best player in the country.

One of my favorite games from the early CNS era was 2009 vs USCe and Mark just ran all over those dudes.

Put him in the Shotgun even and they could not stop him.

I still don't understand how some of these cheap shot guys make it out of a game able to walk for the rest of their lives.

The amount of time remaining was a big factor here

We weren't going to make it 23 yards. How many pass plays did we have of that length all game long?

Now, if the idea is since TN is already in FG range they'll just run it....instead of punting and them potentially passing or running....then maybe.

The SEC was definitely watching out for the barn (and thug Fairley) that year. He should have been flagged several times that season and wasn't.

Slive found a loophole to keep $cam eligible and the barn changed academic rules to keep at least 17 players eligible for the BCSCG.

Back to topic.

That was exactly the logic and it worked. Got the ball back with a chance to tie or win. Unfortunately, our QB had other ideas.

Going for it on 4th and 22 with nearly a 0% chance of converting.....bad decision.

Yes.

But in a way... you kinda have one play to make something happen and then punt or not you have to stop Tenn in three and a field goal doesn't change things so much at 4 points down.

The defense felt it, stopped them, and handed yet another chance to the offense and we gave it right back. So.

But I'd have punted.

Very good point that we hadn't completed anything downfield. The context of going for it was bad.

I don't have an issue with it. It doesn't matter where you are on the field, the game is over if TN gets a first down. By going for it on 4th down, you're giving yourself an extra play. If he had punted, and then we didn't get a stop, everyone would be outraged that he didn't go for it. He'd also honestly probably be kicking himself if that happened, so by going for it, you're almost giving yourself a little bit of insurance. I believe greatly in our defense, but even I wasn't sure we'd get a stop in that scenario.against that run game.

On obvious run downs we don't blow people off the ball. On obvious pass plays we struggle pass setting and let defenders blow by us. I've seen worse but until those two things change I can't give them a "very good" grade.

Brady Cook doesn't play defense. Milroe will be evaluated hopefully by the accuracy of his passes, his decision making, and turnovers or lack thereof. Regardless of the score that is how I will judge his play. I get paid exactly X - 0 from the university. Hopefully our coaches have enough sense to evaluate his play the same way.

It seemed crazy, but it actually worked out because the defense held them the 3 so that the offense had another shot to tie the game.

That being said, the game was a disaster and we deserved to lose.
