Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

You make a great point..If they want him gone, it's simple, buyout his contract & move on..They gave him his big contract, now either get behind him or pay the money & move the hell on..They say they have more money than they know what to do with..Prove it or shut up & get behind Mack to try and turn this thing around..JMHO
I think the clowns orchestrating this treatment of MB are classless, power-hungry idiots. The problem is that the people that want him gone don't have quite enough power or votes to fire him. I think they'd be more than happy to pay the buyout if they could fire him. So, instead their strategy is to make the situation so bad that Mac has no choice but to resign. And, by floating all the "Saban to UT" rumors, they're hoping that fans on the fence will get excited and make the situation even worse.

Seen this enough, I've got to speak to it... I don't believe this WILL come up again next year if MB somehow retains his job. It's my firm belief that Saban is leveraging for SOMETHING right now... and he'll eventually get it. As long as no other issues like this crops up between now and next year, there's no reason to endure this situation again.
Does he want a new in-door practice facility and the highest paid assistants in college football?

Tideman, part of the awkwardness, I believe, is driven by the desire to let Mac walk away with dignity. But Texas seems powerless to control the process. Too many cliques with too many mouthpieces in the media.
They had that planned out IMO but some big wig couldn't make it from point A to point B w/o sending a fat-fingered tweet to the internet hounds in hoping to be "the source close to the negotiations" on the ESPN ticker and Twitterverse.

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

This type behavior out of UT is precisely the same behavior that gave Auburn its bad reputation for how they tried to backstab Tubby. Mack Brown is a widely respected coach and I think that all other coaches are watching this with keen interest. Sure there are a lot of coaches that would jump into that fire. But if you are an elite coach already making within the vicinity of what that job would pay why would you get involved in all that unless you are a prima donna too? I just dont perceive CNS to be that way at all plus we given him assurances that he will be protected compensation wise.

I have been thinking about this for awhile as kind of a counter-intuitive argument on this whole drama. Sure its obvious that CNS is going to be handsomely rewarded due to all this drama - so let's get that out of the way. But I wonder if he and Sexton maybe even the UA administration has decided that you know we cant do anything about all these rumors so why not just use this to both the advantage of CNS and Bama? What I am getting at is what does it say about Alabama if the most wealthiest program in the country cannot lure CNS away and CNS still remains the highest paid coach in CFB? Do you not think that will only enhance the image of Bama as the most storied program in the country who truly goes the extra mile for its coaches and players alike? We know CNS wont be coaching for much longer but you have to think if this works out the way we all think/hope it will it could really entice some future elite HCs to want to come here. If he does indeed stay, this could all workout extremely positive for Bama for the long term...

They aren't paying him five and change to break even in a stripped down Big 12.
True.

However, they should act like adults and fire the man. This charade is so middle school that I'm actually expecting to see a picture of a note with the words, "Do you like Mack? Check yes or NO" posted online.

The people who have the power to fire MB are acting like adults. It's the ones who don't (yet) have that power who are orchestrating this.

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

And it is fascinating how the fates of Texas football programs (not just UT, but the other programs as well) have risen and fallen in rough correlation to oil prices. From the oil boom of the 70's and early 80's to the cheap oil and the bust of the late 80's and 90's, then back to the high prices in the 2000's and now.
Texas history is very interesting. You are correct. The fortunes of UT-Austin and A&M are tied to oil. Both University Systems are among the richest in the nation, because when the Republic of Texas joined the Union we were told to keep all that worthless land, which it turns out was sitting on lots of oil. The state used that money for its universities. BTW It was an alumni of A&M, George Mitchell, who figured out fracking which has led to the current oil boom.

Originally, they wanted to use NYBF's life to model the Dos Equis commercials, but realized it would be too unbelievable, so they settled on the current ad line.
