Trump's Policies

You’re fighting a losing battle trying to explain case by case to these people. It’s totally one way, or the other with this crowd.
This is not the case at all. I’m not sure who “this crowd” or “these people” are, but outright dismissal of all those who disagree with you leads nowhere. If we’re going to have an honest exchange of views, we have to communicate in good faith. At least CA is explaining his perspective rather than choosing not to do so by blaming the other side.

Economy was #1 (always is):
But...

Sure, but those issues (as varied as they might be, with Rs and Ds taking different positions) only come into play when the economy isn’t overwhelmingly the most important one. I can’t find and post them now (I did so a couple of months ago), but polls bear this out. I’ll try to do it tonight.

The sad thing is that it was actually needed because trump WOULD have actually sought retribition for imagined issues.
Retribution for what? Judges have routinely defied republican desired outcomes, especially the Supreme Court.

I guess democrat flavored cronyism is okay to you?

Read the thread, I’m not dismissing anyone, the evidence is there.

CA: I think pardons might be justified in some cases.

other poster: so you think everyone that just trespasses and tries to overthrow the government should be pardoned?!?!

Me: the republican clown show scared normal Americans less than the democrat clown show.

other poster: You’re right, everything is great and perfect.

not what either of us said, but notoriously liberal posters on here are ironically binary in their thinking.

I will say this: if there is video out there of protesters being invited into the White House on January 6 and those people are in jail, the judge presiding over that case should face the firing squad. Also anyone in the White House who had access to that footage and didn’t release it should be standing right next to the judge.

Focus on the dangerous criminals and deadbeats. Although line-jumpers make me (and those immigrants who waited their turn) mad, it would be counterproductive to deport those who have built a life here and are contributing members of society. JMHO.
While line jumpers suck, on average, the wait is now 5 years 8 months just to immigrate to the US legally. And worse yet, you only have a 3% chance of getting a green card. Clearly we have a system that is poorly matched with the demand for immigration to the US, so when you have 30 times the demand for something than the supply, you're going to get lots and lots of cheaters and line cutters.

"Green card backlog: In 2024, there were approximately 34.7 million pending green card applications. However, only about 1.1 million green cards were available, meaning that 97% of applicants would not receive one."

I'm not advocating for anything like 100% immigration, but we're so far away from a system that is even close to meeting the demand, we're creating a internal and external disaster. But I get it, a lot of businesses want a disposable, scared to complain, afraid to ask for raises, benefit-free workforce for their labor, so the current don't ask, don't tell system works great. Well, until it becomes a hot button political issue that most American's have a revulsion to but sadly really have no real insight understanding into.

Lastly, we almost never penalize or much less arrest the businesses and business folks who employ undocumented immigrants and sometimes even advertise US jobs in Central and South America (create demand for workers). Just like the Federal budget, you simply can't just focus on one side of the balance sheet and change much/fix the immigration problem.

This post is WAY beyond the pale in several areas. I surely hope you don't mean what you typed here.

I just don’t want to terminate the honest exchange of ideas because someone seemed inflexible and dismissive. I’d rather not give anyone that kind of power.

I largely agree with you. I am curious to know what number of immigrants should be admitted each year to fill our economic needs. No drug dealers, no rapists, no murderers, no deadbeats, etc. Give me hardworking people who desire to become Americans and who will make our country better. I'll take as many as we need.

No doubt our immigration system is screwed up top to bottom. And there seems to be no desire to correct it.

Do you honestly consider this to be a rational response?

I've not read through them all but so far I've seen nothing in his EOs I hate.

idk I still think it’s kinda stupid using a EO to rename an international body of water… but then again the Democrats renamed a lot of military bases that absolutely no one had a problem with and still doesnt accept their renaming too.

The kicking in of doors and the breaking of glass around the neighborhood was really bothersome early this morning. All the noise at 3:00 a.m.! Too early for such commotion for me. I somehow thought the Brown Shirts would be more considerate. I guess that's my bad.

I get that some of it is silly, but there could be truly awful stuff being signed. Renaming a body of water hurts no one, so I don't hate it.

That is what gets lost in all the xenophobia surrounding immigration.

I may have.a small sample, but the immigrants and refugees(my wife is one) come to this country with nothing and work hard to make a better life for their families.

Absolutely! I think our reference points on this issue are very similar. My wife and her siblings and friends came here with nothing. And now there are all doctors, nurses, engineers, entrepreneurs, etc - all doing very well. We all benefit from their skills and their contributions in taxes. Same with the homebuilder I once worked for. Armenian family (in Turkey) that fled to the US when the Turkish government wanted to experiment with genocide. So, the US gained all that work ethic and skill set. We should always welcome people who bring value and want to participate in the American dream.

I don't think most people are xenophobic - I suspect most are like me and simply don't want undocumented people streaming into the country as they have for most of the last four years.

Wanting border control doesn't make one racist, xenophobic, etc. just as recognizing the need for immigration doesn't mean one wants fully open borders. I know you know this, but I wanted it out there - there are a LOT more people in the middle than in the extremes.
