Will USC get Probation?

I read on some other board that they are alreay on probation for a prior incident maybe in another sport?

The NCAA is very selective in their punishment and their penalties. An example of this is the school south of us. Evidence in hand-a coach paying a player(Eric Ramsey). Lack of institutional control and the loss of 5 schollies and 3 years probation.

Compare that to Bama's. A booster not in direct contact with any official of the university paid for a player(money never found). No lack of institutional control. Verdict: 21 schollies and 5 years probation.

So, you see during this process other scxhools were caught, had their hands slapped, and merrily sent on their way. No major penalties.

USC falls into the category of these other schools who expect just a slap. The NCAA will do little, though the evidence is there and posible criminal prosecution is posible.

negative, ghostrider, the pattern is full.

bamanut_aj,

I see your point but I just do not see this going away anytime soon. An you might be right as well. I see Myles Brand and the gears going crazy in his pointed head. The NCAA knows others are watching so what will they do? Lip service?. I believe the NCAA has no choice. If I am wrong then the earth will nova out of control. Just kidding. :biggrin2:

perhaps the ncaa will use this to punish them for the other stuff with reggie bush etc. that they can't nail them down for....maybe due to that they will get dealt with more severely....right guys...right..(we can dream i guess)

No, the NCAA has given themselve's a LOT of leeway in how they interoperate the actions of individuals and institutions. In this case, they simply do not have to address the actions of Bush. They will come in, having already decided what course to take, pretend to investigate who knew what, then proclaim that they did a thorough investigation and determined that NO ONE in USC's administration knew what was happening so they are not at fault at all. They will not have to answer why this is not a case of "failure to monitor", they will not have to answer why the institution lacks "control". They will simply say that USC is not to blame and that will be the end of it. The fact that Bush is guilty as Hell is simply irrevelent.

Now, behind the scenes, the NCAA will probably tell USC to get the agents under control and keep a closer eye. But I don't see the NCAA really doing anything to USC. It's really frustrating.

the nzaa has a jillion laws and by-laws....and they don't mean a thing. they make up the rules as they go. there is no method to the madness.
the nzaa is on a limited budget. with BAMA off of probation, and the fans excited for the future, these idiots have to budget carefully.
the philsbury dough-boy in knoxville is probably already investigating us.
usc will never be investigated, but if they are they will not be punished.

Normally I'd say SoCal has nothing to worry about but , the NCAA may not be their biggest problem . Traditionally the Pac10 has been just as extreme as the NCAA when sanctioning programs . For example in 1993 , just as our NCAA/Langham investigation began , the University of Washington was hit by the Pac10 .

The Pac10 is the only major conference to conduct its own compliance and enforcement separate from the NCAA . The NCAA does maintain the right of approval and obviously holds the power to veto any findings of the Pac10 .

Pac10 Sanctions - 8/21/93
After only an 8 month investigation into Summer job scams for UW football players , UW was banned from bowl games in '93-'94 , banned from TV $'s for a year , official visits were reduced for '93-'94 & '94-'95 . Scholarships for '94-'95 were reduced to 15 new signees . 15 again for '95-'96 .

The NCAA accepted some but , not all of the penalties while imposing some additional minor sanctions .

BTW , the Washington situation was quite similar to the current issues facing Oklahoma .

No, they don't have enough resources, all their resources are still trying nail Bama. I think they are still peeved that they didn't have anything really concrete the last time.

I voted no because I think the entire focus from the NCAA's investigative arm is the SEC in general and Alabama in particular. What happened to Cal about 3 years ago and Ga Tech with their academic fraud investigations? Nothing came out of that to my knowledge.

We will have one year of bowl ban only because our probation is over. I am glad that this come to light until our probation was past.

I think the same way. Everytime one of the NZAA chosen ones gets in trouble Alabama gets their penalties. ND only lost 2 scholarships in the Las Vegas mess and it amount to 234.000 dollars. The lady in question went to jail for embezzlement of company funds but she wasn't concider a booster. Two years after the 2 scholarship reduction she told 20/20 she and others had given players as much as 325.000 dollars in gifts, trips to Las Vegas. How the hell the NZAA can do what they did to Alabama is rediculious. The Fab 5 incident was said to be 660,000 dollars and the booster admitted it. Michigan was given back some scholarships plus allowed to be on TV a year early. WHY! Mark Tomms of Columbus Ohio told the story in different light. The booster rogered up on the NZAA amount. Juan Howard laugh when ask about that amount. He said it was more like 1.6 million. Nuff Said. The NZAA has its favorites but they look like damn fools in the process. :BigA:
