Maybe it was caused by the unknowns with David Cornwell, but there are those that feel Jacob Park will be the QB in this class. We'll see how this plays out now that we know Cornwell will be eligible this fall for his high school. A few of the QBs that threw at the most recent camp were told they would have word from the Alabama staff, on where they stand, by June 15. So we could have a decision next week from a QB.

Okay, so what is the staff seeing or not seeing in Cornwell that makes him not an immediate take? What does Park do that Cornwell doesn't? Is it a physical thing that separates them or mental/maturity difference? I'm just curious. I'm good with whoever the staff decides on in the end but I have to admit when I saw Corn's tape and measurables I was really hoping he'd be the guy, and he seems to absolutely love BAMA.

I agree. Apparently this decision hasn't come easily and is very fluid. We are in great position with many top targets at QB and I can assure you the one who we take will be the one our staff has put a lot of thought into.

Couple of things I noticed about Park. First, his footwork/mechanics are very good. In somewhat of a quirky offense, he moves extremely well in and around the pocket. He feels the pressure and reacts accordingly. Good passer in the pocket or on the run. Keeps his eyes downfield. Good runner. Tough looking kid. Junior highlights below-

I can see why it is a close decision. I watched both of their tapes. Both of them are good passers. I think DC throws with more velocity. His delivery seems longer because I think he has a tendency to want to deliver his pass on a rope. His feet are in a good position at the point of the pass and on the ground. The difference I see is that he is not as athletic as JP. He is not as elusive once protection breaks down as JP. You probably wont see DC running much zone read option plays. Also, I didnt see any footage of him operating from under center so I dont know how quick he pulls from under center or how well his faking skills are.

As for JP, he looks like you could do almost anything with him. He is very light on his feet - almost too light. His footwork reminds me of Manziel. He can certainly improvise when protection breaks down - very tough runner. With him, you could add some zone read option plays with your pro-style attack. He has a compact throwing motion - quick release. However, I will say that I dont think that he throws with as much velocity as DC. He throws a lot of high arching passes downfield - seems to have real good touch on his throws and great field awareness. He does have a tendency to throw off his back foot when on the run and does throw quite a bit with his feet not touching the ground (unlike DC in this regard).

It really is a toss up. DC reminds me of a Marino type passer while JP has the looks of an RGIII style of play. If you can eliminate the back foot throws and hop passing and put another 20lbs on JP, I think you have a real dynamic player at the QB position. I can see why JP might be our top guy right now; however, I dont think you could go wrong with either one.

No, but I know they do their homework and are closer to the situation. I was just pointing out a fact that makes one pause...I thought this was a discussion board...your answer could be given to any comment about any prospect.
