Bama Coordinator Search Thread

LOL at people acting like on Kiffin, Sark, and Freeze are the only ones who have had previous 'issues'.

Come on, people - are you really that naive? The list of coaches - men who work incredibly stressful and demanding jobs - that haven't cheated on their wives or cheated recruiting is likely much, much smaller than you think...

Let's be real here - none (or very few) here really know the coaches intimately, so NO ONE is in a position to pass judgement on their actions.

Let the chips fall where they may and support your team, but those drawing moral lines in the sand need to wake up...

So, just to be a smart butt... how do we rank sins?

Sark: official alcoholic. Relapsed after he was an analyst here.
Kiffin: loves the coeds, likes to drink, disappeared until 3am the morning we played Washington and called plays that didn't exist.
Freeze: various crimes involving recruiting, lying, had a phone just for escorts.

But, we don't like Locksley who is like a dad to many players and lost his son via murder this past year.
I think you meant should have had a phone just for escorts! In one of the all-time dumbest moves of a high profile person he used his university phone to call his ladies of the night which is why the call logs were available as public records. A $75 dollar burner phone would have saved him 5 million per year and a ton of embarrassment without the need of having to go all Jimmy Swagert in hopes of getting back to the mountain top.

Someone making 5 million a year can easily afford 250k a year for a personal assistant who has signed a rock solid non-disclosure to handle such matters discreetly. Maybe Nick can coach his pal up on how to play with the big boys. In his defense he was just a high school coach cruising the local community college for his side piece less than a decade ago. Even veterans like Bobby Petrino who should know better make stupid mistakes though. If Hugh comes on board Nick will get him straightened out.

You're right, sounds like the players are having a big influence on this decision. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing.

While logical with what we know, I'm not sure that conclusion is correct. Saban will do what he feels is best for the team - maybe he's listening to the players, or maybe he honestly believes Locklsey is our best option long(er) term.

The reason I think that is because players coming out and publicly wanting him to be the OC on Twitter. I could be wrong, but I don't remember that happening in the past with other coordinators?

I don't think this was a Locksley v. Freeze situation. I think we're looking to hire him as a QB coach as we were supposedly looking into with Weinke before he was hired away from our analyst ranks. Just a reckon but I think Locks getting the OC position was the favorite from the jump but Saban is all about due diligence.

The players loved Kiffin - most still do.

For those being critical of Locksley, what did you know about Brian Daboll before CNS hired him? All I knew was he had a checkered past as an OC in the NFL and was a TE coach for NE. If Locksley has been promoted to OC then CNS knows what the hell he is doing.

The thing is Locksley had a chance to learn under Kiffin and Daboll. He knows what works and what won't work with his receivers. WE will always be a run first team, but given that Locksley had to develop plan for Hurts this season since Daboll refused to do so, I wonder what does that mean for Tua and Jalen... I think under Locksley there will be a competition no matter what the fans said... SO, I think we will add another OC and QB coach just to figure out some things.

x2

The truth is Daboll's success as an OC in the NFL was abysmal.

2009 Browns - 32nd
2010 Browns - 29th
2011 Dolphins - 20th
2012 Chiefs - 32nd

It can be argued that he was coaching bad teams, but to have the worst offense in the league 2 out of 4 years he coached is pretty terrible.

Locksley OTOH, has a couple pretty nice seasons on his resume, and he's never had the kind of talent he'll have here.

As I've said before, I trust Coach to make the right call.

Where did you hear that Daboll refused to develope a plan for Jalen? I've never heard anything like that before. And I don't think there's any way coach Saban would have allowed that to happen.

i agree with you. I think what I read was not that Daboll refused, but that he had no experience in the RPO type offense often utilized with a running QB, Coach Locksley assisted him because he did have experience with it.

What exactly was the plan Locksley had to develop Jalen? I am really curious.
