Yes, he still has a part of the population that will back him regardless. But this is a bridge too far for all but the most rabid.

I’m honestly surprised that being a convicted felon isn’t a disqualification for the job, but apparently it isn’t. Regardless, the electorate is very closely divided. If only 5% of voters change their votes from Trump to Biden, or simply sit home rather than vote for Trump, it swings the election decidedly in Biden’s favor.

The smart move for the Republicans would be to draft Nikki Haley at the convention — she pretty consistently got 20% of the vote in primaries that occurred even after she stopped campaigning.

But that would be smart. And due to the way the Republicans allocate delegates in the primaries, there’s no indication that “smart,” and “Republican delegate,” have much in common.

I’m not so sure, CJ. When her campaign was still active, she consistently polled ahead of Biden in a Haley vs. Biden election. She was actually more electable than Trump.

That’s been a while, and who knows what the impact of several months off the campaign trail would be.

Trump is now the guaranteed loss. Haley might lose as well, but I don’t see it as being the lock that you do.
