Any team that drafts that kid from North Dakota over Mac should lose their first round pick next year.
What I meant was it can be done. But you cannot coach more athleticism into an athlete. They have what they have...not really. Just like athleticism, each individual player has limits on what they can do mentally as well. That's why there are times when a player has all the physical tools they could ever want, and they sometimes might not live up to it because they just don't get it, or just can't mentally process enough, quickly enough...
That's the one I don't get. Nor the kid from BYU.Any team that drafts that kid from North Dakota over Mac should lose their first round pick next year.
And what I am saying is that's not universally true. It doesn't matter how much coaching a player gets, if that player doesn't have the mental clock speed to see, recognize, process, decide and react that player will hit a wall in their development they won't be able to overcomeWhat I meant was it can be done. At least the kid from BYU played last year. That's the one I don't get. Nor the kid from BYU.
Frankly I do not even see the same level of accuracy from Lawrence. But yeah, they can all run around better than Mac.
This is generally true. However, in the case of the 49ers, I'm not sure what good subterfuge would do them at this point. They are #3. No one can trade ahead of them so there's no point in trying to talk any player up or down. I think they're just in a genuine quandary as to which of the three to choose. All three have strengths and weaknesses. That said, I will say that Jones' arm is far stronger than he's given credit for in the press. OTOH, Fields processing of reads is giving potential suitors far more heartburn than is generally being publicized...More than half of what we hear this time of the year is meant to throw other teams off. Like a player, talk him down. Not interested in a player, talk him up. It isn't important that Mac go 3rd. As long as he goes in the top half of the first round, he will get his chance to start. That is all that any player could hope for. Then he just has to perform.
When both teams ahead of them are also taking a QB - don't help their analysis by giving away yoursThis is generally true. The two teams ahead have been pretty open about whom they're taking. I don't think anyone thinks there is any analysis going on. Even Shanahan has said there's no point in concealing anything this year at #3, which tells me that he hasn't made up his mind, not that he's playing games...When both teams ahead of them are also taking a QB - don't help their analysis by giving away yours
JMO, but if they had not made up their mind when they made the trade, they are lost. You don't trade up to 3rd in the draft to get Fields or Jones - they are too different as players. And when they traded up it looked like Jones would still be available quite a bit later in the 1st. If they traded up "to have options at QB" without knowing that one of these guys was their future franchise QB then they don't know what they are doing. The two teams ahead have been pretty open about whom they're taking. I think this is all right but I really think the 49ers are taking Fields not Jones.JMO, but if they had not made up their mind when they made the trade, they are lost. Either way, it is my opinion that they traded up knowing exactly who they were taking. Nothing in the pro day workouts will change what they think of these guys. They will take Jones or Fields (I am hoping they take Jones), but they knew who they were taking no matter what they say.
I kinda think that the Jets could take Fields at #2.
I think the kid from BYU is Jimmy Clausen Jr. Well paid clipboard holder...I think the kid from BYU is pretty good has big arm that the nfl covets, TL may deserve number 1 pick, I dont see all the hype about Fields he's athletic but i dont see nothing else , I'm going to be a homer but who ever drafts Mac will get a steal. He just has it!!
LOL! We'll just have to agree to disagree, then. I don't think they're playing charades. In the end, though, I think they take Fields. They just wanted to make sure. I also think they'll be sorry...JMO, but if they had not made up their mind when they made the trade, they are lost. This is my take on the situation. Jones has his limitations with athleticism, but I do not understand the criticism of arm strength. He has more than enough to be successful. That said, I will say that Jones' arm is far stronger than he's given credit for in the press. There's a lot of private scuttlebutt going around that his arm is not all that weak at all. It's just the click-baiters echoing each other...This is my take on the situation. I think Fields would do well with one more season at Ohio State, due to only getting a half season this past year, but there is no time for that when you're guaranteed to be a top 5 pick.
He has an NFL arm, but I agree that he would benefit from returning for another season. There's a lot of private scuttlebutt going around that his arm is not all that weak at all. It's just the click-baiters echoing each other...
And could be a reason why Justin Fields (according to many "experts") is valued over Mac Jones.I don't think most are saying Mac's arm is weak. I just think people are saying its not elite especially when compared to some of the other guys in this class.
Frankly Tua had a similar issue but Burrow didn't really have an elite arm either. So the guy he was being compared to most often wasn't a big arm guy.
Weird the strong armed, mobile, less accurate QB who looked the least pro ready had the best rookie season last year
