coach G said if this were a regular season game that steele would have started, so no worries. coach g just wanted steele to have 4 or so full days of full rest so he will be good to go this friday in the season opener.I was semi-worried about hearing Steele did not play. I realize it's Montevallo and that he will probably not miss a step. But they said the reason was tendinitis in his knee :/
Since this was a preseason game...would it count against using a redshirt? I know Jemison will get some PT this year...but him only playing 3 minutes made me wonder if he could still redshirt since that game wasn't technically official.Any idea why Jemison only played 3 minutes??
The next few recruiting classes are possibly the best the state has ever produced (seven in-state prospects on Rival's 2008 Top 100, two in-state prospects on 2009's Top 25). Like it or not, each marginal player we keep on scholarship past next season means one less scholarship available for a higher rated prospect. Delaying their chance to prove themselves a year doesn't do anybody much good.If they are not ready for D1 basketball, then they need to red-shirt.
Agreed. I just look at our short bench every year and can't help but think about how one injury can ruin a season, where as a team like Memphis last year who had guys coming in and out constantly could probably keep going without losing a step. The next few recruiting classes are possibly the best the state has ever produced (seven in-state prospects on Rival's 2008 Top 100, two in-state prospects on 2009's Top 25). First someone has to convince CMG to play more than 7 players once the SEC schedule starts. These kids want to play, not wait til next year, plus they need the seasoning.Agreed. I don't disagree with the reality of the situation being pretty close to what you stated, but in my opinion, both of those questions should have been answered during the recruiting process. I agree that if you have someone with physical ability that needs some fundamental work before being ready, such as Yamene, a redshirt might not be a bad idea. My wish is more that we could use more than a 7 man rotation so that Ron and others aren't dead tired at the end of games. You look at all of the top programs and I can almost guarantee we have the shortest bench. Say what you want, but I think it could come back to haunt us in March if we see the same kind of minutes out of our starters this year. You got to look at a red-shirt two ways.1)Are they physically ready for the D1,SEC basketball?2)Are they ready to also do it in the classroom? The red-shirt gives the coach an opprotunity to see if the player can make it. If the coach or the player (or together) decides that this situation isn't right for the player, then the player can transfer without losing a year. These schollies are not for 4years. They are 1 year renewals.
