Amen to that. We supposedly have one of the most talented rosters in CFB. Top 5 in recruiting.
It aint NIL why we are struggling.
I don’t necessarily disagree with you, but I believe the roster talent thing based on the number of 4- and 5-star recruits is a bit overblown.

It’s possible to have a team full of highly rated recruits, but it’s meaningless if they aren’t the right kind of recruits. Bobby Bowden had some of the best players on paper in college football in his final years, but they were just a collection of players that didn’t mesh into a cohesive team.

Same goes for Mark Richt, who always had great teams on paper. We were pulling great players out of Georgia regularly, but it didn’t seem like there was a lot of competition with UGA for those players at the time (I could be wrong about that) because we were going for a different type of player than they were. When Kirby took over, he started going for the same type of players we were after and we started missing on a lot of players who would have been at Alabama when Richt was at UGA.

I think missing on those players explains a lot of the decline at Alabama; however, we continued to land on top of the recruiting rankings, which further underscores my theory that the talent rankings are of limited value for predicting the quality of a team.

Sadly, the only thing that hurts my feelings about this is I wasted 4 hours of my holiday weekend to absorb the punishment. Bama Football as we knew it is a bygone treasure. I don’t expect another dynasty in this age of CFB but we fell off the cliff last year and we’ve continued tumbling on the rocks. I’m not planning anymore Saturday’s around this program. Not DONE! done yet but definitely developing the DON’T CARES.

Kiffin would be more familiar with Alabama both in recruiting and expectations. But again you have to take the extreme highs with his extreme lows. So i think it’s probably at best a slight upgrade of what we got currently but has the realistic potential to be a Curry level hire that we regret too. It’s far from a great and sensible hire
I think it’s clear KD is out of his depth.

We’re already experiencing wild highs and lows.

There’s probably no way to predict the perfect hire but our current course is headed for mediocrity at best.

I don’t think Alabama is such an unattractive program that we can’t try and upgrade.

Plus now a new HC isn’t following CNS he’s following a guy who can’t beat NR teams that he’s -14 points favored over.

And its not like we are poor...we are top 10 in NIL....so the talent can be acquired like the other programs

This is literally a continuation from last year, and is honestly not even new under DeBoer...

It seems you're wistfully hopeful things will magically fix themselves when they were already askew under Saban and have fallen further under DeBoer.

In time, you may well be correct that mine is an overreaction...

But sadly, based on current evidence I'd be willing to bet a large sum that I'm not wrong.
I have said this numerous times over the years but Saban gets the “Bear” treatment that older crowd constantly beats their chest with in which there can never be a truly objective analysis on the actual decline of the dynasty because of the accomplishments that they made in the run. Dynasty’s don’t decline under a cliff like Max Kellerman thinks. They decline usually under championship seasons. I put the decline at the “2nd and 27” game. Yes we won a championship but after that night Saban shifted focus onto recruiters over talent development coaches. We suddenly stopped getting aces in coaching and started to get guys like Locks and Pete. Since 2018 everyone has been killing us at getting can’t miss DLinemen. Why? Because we had no one at Alabama since then can develop them. Why did saban go this route? Because he was constantly having to replace ace coaches every year because everyone wanted them as head coaches or coordinators. Saban chose comfort with recruiting over the stresses of constantly having to replace ace staff.

Saban teams from 21-23 were constantly high in penalties and had extreme difficulties on the road in SEC play. So it’s not new for us to field undisciplined teams and struggle on the road. What’s new is that we can’t seem to make halftime adjustments and we lose more of them. But again having Bryce young masks a lot.

There are no excuses. Just like there were no excuses for the AD to increase ticket prices 5his year. Interested to see where that goes

I’m all ears to hear who we should hire, but what options have won what we want? Us losing this game and the coaching is a micro issue, macro issue is we have no money compared to others. Everyone needs to look at the teams that made the playoffs last year and the resources their alumni bring to bear.
Then come to terms we've seen our last championship years. Because this staff ain't winning 10 games much less getting into the playoffs.

His buyout drastically drops after next season and as far as im concerned, if there's not a 180 done soon we'll be exercising it the second we can. Im not sitting three and half hours every Saturday watching crap football, which is what theyre putting on the field the last year and a half. This is worse than Dubose and Shula football.

It hurts me how accurate this is...

Unfortunately I agree with everything you said…. I tried to convince myself that even though NIL and the portal drastically reduced my overall interest in the sport, I could put all that aside on Saturdays and still enjoy the games as I always have….but that’s just not the case…. I don’t pull for most of these guys like I used to pull for the previous generation of players…. It’s hard to get behind these players when they can be gone at the drop of a hat…and while I do like to see us sign guys out of the portal, it’s still tough to fully embrace a kid that’s wearing his 3rd or 4th college jersey….
I straight up just quit paying attention to the roster. I watch the game and am pleasantly surprised when I see a guy and recognize him from last year. “Oh look, Cuevas is still on the team. Good catch.”

100%...we have seen the golden years and they were amazing...now every season is a one off with transfers etc...so we may catch lightning in a bottle but it will be a surprise..the days of dominating are over

Considering we’re not on probation and still have on paper Top 5 talent you’re right.

This is grossly underperforming.

I‘m not sure top 10 matters. OSU literally bought and paid for a championship last year. Being #10 (or anything other than 1) doesn’t really matter much in that case.

Todays match up.....UT ($22.2M) vs OSU ( $20.2M)....winner! ....we have $15.9M in this team this year...so the money is there...FSU was $10M for reference

I’m glad you brought up the coordinators because when you look at Ohio State after Urban retired or Oklahoma after Stoops retired, they were able to hire within to keep things rolling, when Saban retired, we had no one on the staff to hire because every coordinator after Kirby treated their job as a coaching rehab to get a job somewhere else. The only coach that may have been able to take over would’ve been Sark if Saban retired after 2020 but Kevin Steele (or T-Rob) and Tommy Rees had no shot of taking over, I honestly thought after BoB left, Saban’s next OC choice was gonna be someone he chose to replace him.

Either way, while the program was left in good shape, there were a lot of issues under the hood.
