We are not talking "sky is falling." We are talking about fixing what limited us. For every big play this year, there's a unforgivable mistake that limited the offense all year long.

Sky is falling would be we can't compete in the SEC next year. The sky is the limit is improving to win the SEC again and advance to 12 team play off and win it all.

Right now, we are way above "sky if falling" and somewhere below "the sky is the limit."

RTR!
You have to remember, some here label any criticism of the team or coaches as "sky is falling" or "Eeyore" mentality.

Doesn't matter that we have a real shot every year.

Going into 2024 we'll have a shot again. But with Texas and Oklahoma coming in, the margins are much thinner. QB and C play have to be better.

Out of a 15 game possible season our talent alone should get us 8 may be 9 wins. Im not diminshing the coaching effort in these games but talent advantage overcomes the potential loss a high percentage of the time.

For the remaining 6-7 games include a SECX and 2 CFP games. During this 6-7 game schedule the order of magnitude for player performance and coaching performance increase.

We finished 4-2 in this schedule and didn't compete in a 7th game. When you break it down this way, what must you have in order to finish 7-0 or 6-1 with a NC? I don't think Milroe has the skills to deliver this result.

And this should be how you define the starter. Maybe he was the best candidate to carry us through this year. After the Michigan game, without improvement, UGA collapses the pocket from all directions preventing any QB runs and takes their chances without a spy and plays prevent defense in the secondary. If this gameplan against Milroe going forward, I believe he is a 2-2 QB in 7 game possible schedule. That is not a Heisman candidate imo.

Well we are going to have 2 September games in which a team is going to be able to mimic what both Texas and Michigan did against us. I know most are already counting our trip to Camp Randall as a win but I can guarantee you that it’s going to be a once in a lifetime crowd there that day and Fickle is a smart defensive coach.

Then you have Georgia…. I really don’t think Georgia makes the same mistake when facing Milroe a second time in double spying him.

The Michigan game really makes the SECCG game look like a “it was just our day not to mess up on offense” and the Texas game to be the truth about our offense. We are a team that tops out at 27 against teams with a good to decent defense and that is not because we run the ball either.

If that was the OC call, it was terrible...
Now we find out it wasn't the call, but an errant snap caused the problem...! So what's new...! One of the WR's - Kobe Prentice I think - cleared that up, the player it was supposed to go to - on an RPO - was wide open, but Jalen didn't have time to do anything, bad snap + O-Line inability led to a one yd. run into a wall...

Where are you getting this info? CNS said it was a called QB run. Is Kobe Prentice questioning CNS? Passing it to Roydell was NOT the play call.

Maybe KP is saying what many others have said. Roydell walks into the EZ more than likely if that was the play call. But it was not.

I'm not convinced Saban didn't offer this rather than throwing players under the bus (Seth's bad snap, Jalen's panicked response)...
Perhaps, but he sure built a big narrative around it as he described the good look they had before the first time out, the bad look when we took the second time out and then how the play would have worked if executed correctly.

The incredible is the decoy (Roydell) was the easiest way into the EZ if we just swing it out to him on time and in stride.

So it's no surprised (and it wasn't to UM) that we'd resorted to Jalen's legs instead of his arm.

BamaBuc was correct.

“We were trying to take advantage of the looks they were giving us at the end,” Prentice told AL.com in the locker room. “That’s what it was. It was supposed to be a bubble (screen) coming out of the backfield by the back. A read (or choice) but, you know, stuff just kind of happened.

SIAP but is it possible that our centers problems were forced by actions of the defensive players by making him somehow rush the snap by their actions? Maybe film showed them some issues that they were able to exploit.

I'm super confused because the video is of Coach and Jalen saying it was a run play all the way. No mention of a swing pass to Roydell.
I think crimsonaudio was correct when he said Saban didn't want to throw anyone under the bus. If Saban would have said it was supposed to be a pass to Williams then it leads to a rather embarrassing question for Milroe which is " Why didn't you even look towards Williams when you picked the ball up?"

Thing is, the RB in the flat is a pass that Milroe either fails to hit a lot of the time (happened earlier in this game) or takes too long to throw so the defense recovers and forces a short to no gain play (also happened a few times this game). So while Roydell may have theoretically had the best chance to score, I’d have been really nervous when that pass came out.

One more thing I wanted to say about this game. Will Reichard is a baller and there is no doubt in my mind that if we could have gotten him into FG position on our final drive, he was going to win this game for us. From 50+ yards too. No doubt. I am going to miss him in Crimson but am thankful he came back for this season and got that NCAA record. I hope he gets drafted and kills it in the NFL for years to come.

Making that play is not a given with Milroe, like it was with Bryce, Mac, or Tua. He missed an easy swing pass earlier in the game to #26. Just put the ball way to out in front of him.

Having to go for it on 4th and goal should make you nervous enough.

The offensive failures in this game were many and varied.

I waited a while to post.

Facts: This team made it farther than last year's. They avenged our two losses from the previous year to hated rivals. They won at the barn. They went undefeated in conference and won the SEC - over a team with a nearly 30 game winning streak. They lost to two playoff teams in games that could have gone the other way.

We also featured a quarterback who was a first time starter with a first year OC and was among national leaders in passing rating for most of the season. He threw at a 70 percent completion percentage with no picks in the game against Michigan, all while fielding the snap off the turf half the time. I, for one, am very much looking forward to his return next year. I doubt the rest of our league is.

I know the loss is raw for many of us but the hyperbole about Monday's outcome is just too much. In my view, we had a very vanilla and tight offensive gameplan for Michigan. There are things that worked for us during the season that we didn't even try the other night. I suppose Saban saw how fundamentally tough Michigan looked and decided safe and fewer mistakes was the gameplan. It didn't work. Anyway, it seemed like they had the perfect counter for everything we tried. I call that being outcoached. That's okay. It happens sometimes.

Combine that with our heroic defense being gassed late in the game and there we are.

This team didn't make it all the way, but it was still among Bama's best. Are we so spoiled that we're going to eat our own when we don't win a NC every year? The players work hard to put a great team out there for us and they're probably listening... So I say it was a great season, Roll Tide and let's go all the way next year.
Excellent post, and fully agreed. We are a spoiled fan base. My four years at UA were the 2003-2006 seasons and I still remember how it felt to go 6-6 and be relieved to sneak into the Music City or Independence Bowl. This was an extremely satisfying season as far as I'm concerned - undefeated in conference play, revenge wins over UT and LSU, a fourth straight win over Auburn (which has never happened in my lifetime), knocking off UGA, and winning a conference title. All of this after those first three weeks of the season where we looked like a 7-5 or 8-4 team. CNS was on record after Monday night saying that this will go down as one of his favorite teams that he's ever coached just based on what they accomplished relative to where they started, and the sheer amount of improvement they made over the course of the season. I'm inclined to agree with him.

I understand the bar is very high at Alabama and any season that doesn't end with a national title can be seen as a disappointment, but I'm also in the "enjoy it while we can" camp. The transfer portal, NIL and conference expansion are going to make things more difficult going forward. Then we'll have to deal with the eventual retirement of CNS and hope that we don't bungle the replacement hire, which is much easier said than done......

RTR.

I meant to add some stats for levity's sake: the final collective record of our opponents for 2023 is 119-64, which is a 65% win percentage. We lost by a combined 17 points to teams ranked #1 and #3 in the final pre-playoff polls. We had wins against teams ranked #5, #11, #13, and #21 - the last three of those by 14 points each and one game featuring our sometimes-maligned QB outdueling the Heisman winner.

That's a dang good season that (almost) any team in the country would envy.
