I agree. Unless we can effectively bust the zone, we can't beat it. You either have to shot 3's, or pass out of the high post. Engstrom looked good out of the high post, but he has been out...but I don't know why Green isn't put in the same situation. He would be wonderful off the pick and roll, as long as Releford can still pass (he has been in a funk).
 
Our offense goes as our shooting goes. I know JG is the whipping boy, but he is not a black hole. He only took 8 shoots today. He took 7 against State and 11 against the barn. When people cut to the basket JG usually hits them. Problem is people get complacent when he is in the game. They look to him to make a play. They need to be aggressive no matter who is on the floor. There isn't a player on this roster that needs to be kicked off the team. That's just crazy. 11 pts, 13 rbs, 4 blocks, 2 ast. Who besides Green can give us that on a consistent basis? We really so need a shooter, but this team needs so much at this point I think a pure shooter than can't play a lick of D is not top priority for Coach. Hopefully we'll get one in the 2013 class.
 
I wonder if some of our perimeter shooting woes come from not having anyone in that role who gets consistent minutes. FOr example, when Cooper was a starter he got hot (scoring at will basically). Lacey, at times, has shown touch...Ranpolph is only a 25% shooter form outside, and Hankerson can be streaky...but none of them are in the game for long stretches (aside from Randolph). Steele is getting most of the Lacey/Cooper minutes now, and he isn't a "shooter". Maybe we should alter the starting lineup a bit. Bring Releford or Randolph off the bench instead. I hate playing with three Guards, but in the SEC you can play a bit of small ball. Jacobs, Green, Cooper, Steele, Releford or Jacobs, Green, Randolph, Steele, Lacey...

My basketball knowledge is limited, and I know opponents often dictate style of play, but I fail to see how Cooper and Hankerson can't get more minutes, if for no other reason than they are capable of knocking down threes all night when they get going - it just seems like they never get the chance.

Could be a matter of defensive play.
 
Hankerson was the only bench player that scored, yet only logged 8 minutes. No offense to Eblen (no pun intended), but he got 13 minutes in which the only stats he recorded was 0-1 shooting and 2 fouls (in the last 5 games his stat line reads 1 pt, 1 reb, 1 ast, 1 stl, 1 to and 4 fouls).

Hey, we're a pretty good team (period). However, we are young and don't yet have all the ingredients to be a great team. We need time - so be patient grasshoppers - we are going to be competitive soon. The guys just need confidence in shooting the ball! No need for bashing at this point. BTW - Earle you are an A___ole!!!! JK!!! Good job deleting the nonsense!

I would like to see Hankerson get more minutes. Cooper plays anywhere from 20-25 minutes a game. Whose minutes do we give them? Lacey's, Randolph's, or Steele's? Unless you slide Lacey over to the point some, which we already do for the most part.
 
Need a true #5 to complement Jacobs. Hard to rebound against 3 guys down low. Usually we have 1 guy rebounding and 4 outside the 3 point line. With as poor as the shooting has been I think it is incredible they have 20 wins. I also think we are more on the bubble than some think. USCe is a must win. If they lose it would mean 2 "bad" losses and two losses to end the season. Not exactly a good position to be in.

I have a basketball question from yesterday. How can we not figure out how to attack a 2-3 zone? We never make the pass to the middle or drive to the middle without turning it over. The funny thing is that Ole Miss was actually defending the three point line against us and leaving places open for ten and fifteen foot jumpers. I'd say we shoot the ten to fifteen footers better than we do the three ball, but we never/rarely got to those spots. Based on the Auburn and Ole Miss games this week, we are not an NCAA tournament quality team; however, there have been times this year where we have played like an NCAA team. We should have made it last year, but we didn't. If I were Coach Grant and the boys, I would make sure to show up in New Orleans and get a win or two. Roll Tide!
 
Ole Miss is the tallest team in the league....our guards except for Cooper are not tall. 10-15 foot shots get blocked. When they did drive, they got called for charging, got mugged, or slapped around....
