Jerrell Harris eligibility???

First off, it was probably mentioned here many weeks ago but I cant remember.

  1. How did or Who did let the UA compliance department learn of this incident. Who tipped thisme off? Could it have been a planned tipoff from a Barner?
  2. This is precisely the scenario that I feared would happen as a result of the Means saga. Its been awhile, but based on the drama with TN and Ray Keller and the other guy I presumed there was ample opportunity for a rival booster to pose either as a booster of the rival school to incriminate athletes of the rival school or befriend the athletes of the rival school in an effort to create eligibility problems.
  3. This is precisely the sort of thing that NCAA needs to address in terms of sabotaging rival schools in order to jeopardizing the eligibility of its players. Could it be possible that these players knew this person was not a booster of the school and decided that it was okay to befriend him or accept gifts from him?
  4. If so, this could get really complicated and I for one dont see how some of the kids keep it straight.

Two things.

(1) If JH took a laptop from this guy, he should be suspended. There is no doubt in my mind that he knew it was wrong, but did it anyway. The MI/JJ situation sounded a bit more innocent, but, ultimately they should have known better as well. It's time that our players start taking responsibility for their actions. Color me disappointed.

(2) I find it very interesting that Curtis Anderson has all of a sudden become silent and has obtained council. I'm from Athens, but I don't know the guy. If he is taking part in some sort of conspiracy, what does that say about the rivalry? I don't even look forward to the Iron Bowl this year (even though the result will probably be similar to last year) because of all the "hate" that gets thrown around. It is pathetic that full grown men will buy players and hire private investigators with their own money regardless of the school. And the thought that they might buy stuff for the other team's players to turn that school into the NCAA is downright creepy. These two programs appear headed down the SWC route.

Has there been confirmation that he has acquired an attorney?

Agree on Jerrell, but completely disagree on Julio and Mark. They can't have friends outside of a school setting? It was a fishing trip, not a new car, not a job where they didn't have to show up. What was the benefit? Helping a guy who is handicap onto a boat and baiting his hook?

Jerrell should have known better, but it sounds like Julio may have legitimately been duped.

I think I came across too harsh on the JJ/MI thing. What I want to say as that anything that can even be considered borderline inappropriate by the state media or fans is eventually going to be judged on the internet or by the NCAA. I realize that there was very little, if any, benefit received from going fishing, and I didn't feel that it should have put their amateur status into jeopardy. But the thought that it might have changed their amateur status should have at least warranted a call to the compliance office. I know that it is ridiculous, but if you play football for Alabama, you have to be careful.

A laptop? Doesn't that seem kinda random to ya'll?
Maybe a car, maybe concert tickets, maybe even a gun. But a laptop?
There's something wrong here.

One of the most reliable posters from tidesports that usually has reliable information said that Jerrell was asked about the laptop and lied about it. He was unable to produce a receipt for the laptop and it was then that he finally admitted the truth. The guy also said that his suspension would likely be for half the season and possibly more. Take it with a grain of salt but it won't be treated the same as the Jones/Ingram situation. I heard one of Coach Saban's pressers when he said that he tried to instill in the players the idea that they have freedom of choice but not freedom of consequence. If Jerrell was dishonest then he brought this on himself. I was really hoping he would have a great year especially since he was so highly touted as a recruit. The question that remains in my mind is how does this Anderson guy get to know Jerrell Harris? Sounds fishy to me (no pun intended.)

Is anyone getting a little worried about the trend with Harris / Jones/ Ingram ?

I can understand Jones and Ingram but how did Harris get involved. I am starting to get a little worried. I really hope that there is nothing to this guy but this trend is bothersom.

We've heard for months that the NCAA never runs separate investigations.

Evidently they do...which makes me worry tremendously about what crap the Aubs are going to finally get stuck to the wall in Gadsden.

Question for Tide-HSV:

1. Has the ncaa contacted the barn about this Anderson guy seemingly associated with them because of contact with 3 different UA players?

Ive heard that hes also big friends with barn donors.

2. Anything new on the last incident that was turned over to the ncaa
about the barn and the carlot?

Seems to me that allbarn is about to bite off more than they can chew
with their spitting into the wind.

We need to back off with some of this speculation . So , how about some facts ......

1 - Anderson has not been entirely honest about any of his dealings or attempted dealings with Bama players .
2 - The players we are currently discussing are not the only ones Anderson has attempted to befriend .
3 - There was nothing above board when it comes to his actions or the consequences which could result from his actions .

If you can read between those lines , you should have much of the picture .

It is not a separate investigation, so you can quit worrying. In fact, it's not an investigation nor institutional at all. It only goes to several individual's eligibility. There's a huge difference...

The kids are all briefed on the rules and told to be cautious. They should know by now that they are not ordinary students. If they don't, they either weren't listening or the coaches dropped the ball. Somehow, after all that's transpired at our school, I doubt it's the latter. At least I doubt it with this coaching staff.

If the story is true, though, and Harris took the computer and went on his merry way, it speaks of a sense of entitlement that is truly troubling, and under the current circumstances, could be lethal to our program.

We can't control the Auburn pathogens. Unfortunately, we can't seem to control ourselves either.

Man ... this is an unfortunate situation. I think it's time for coach to pop in a tape of "Who Got Game" and let the fellas take a lesson from Jesus Shuttlesworth. (smile)

All I can say is for the future, fellas just say no. If you continue to work hard on and off the field, you'll have your payday via the NFL (if of, course that's what you chose to do as a career) in three or four years.

Now, not saying I agree with the conspiracy portion BUT ... if this happens to be the case ... it's really a SAD and PATHETIC adult(s) that would set out to sabotage the future of a young man just for the sake of a football rivalry.

I would like to ask that someone clarify what is considered an illegal gift? Like if the laptop in question would have came from the pastor of his home church, is that illegal? How are these things judged?

They aren't . These are simply incidents requiring individual rulings for each player in question .

I don't post a whole lot, and I sure as hell have not posted anything I don't know to be true. I do know that the NCAA investigated the fishing trip. I'm not sure of the terminology or if we're playing semantics when discussing and "investigation" versus a "determination," but I know individuals other than Ingram, Jones, and Anderson were questioned...

I'm just concerned that they did not clear everyone involved with Anderson at once, especially if there are separate incidents. It does mean that they are covering each case separately. I'm not worried about what has actually happened; I'm more worried about how much crap the Aubs who are slinging it can get to stick to the wall in the eyes of the NCAA. We've already seen that it doesn't take much in the way of evidence for them to hammer us.

If it had come from any source because of his status as an athlete, it's still an illegal benefit. The exceptions are for pre-existing relationships, which obviously includes family and friends before the ninth grade. I'd assume that charities would fall under the same rules...
