Official Post Game Thread - Everything Here, Please...

I have read all nine pages of comments coming before mine here, and I must say, the Bama Nation is gracious to a young man who somehow has made a mistake. God bless you, Andre. We sure needed you tonight.

Anyone who has ever played in an offensive backfield knows that you aren't worth much without an offensive line. Eight sacks of JPW, and not many yards from Coffee. The consequence followed the cause tonight, plain and simple.

Points up just how delicate the balance on an offensive line can be, how thin we were on the offensive line this year, and how lucky we were all year long there -- until this game. Saban said it earlier this year -- there is a hairbreadth's difference between winning and losing. As long as the offensive line was intact, we blew teams away at the line of scrimmage. Another thing -- if your offense can't keep your defense off the field, your defense is going to have a tough time getting going. A defense is buoyed by a great offensive showing, and a defense can get down if the offense doesn't do its part and the defense keeps having to trot back onto the field.

We have a good deal of talent overall, but it seems to me that the offensive line is the toughest spot on a team to really be good. Once we lost the Outland Trophy winner, our Achilles Heel was revealed. How many teams have you ever seen that could lose a good offensive lineman and keep going as before?

I have always liked JPW as the Alabama quarterback. A QB cannot pass if he is on his derriere. And he can't pinpoint his passes if he is hurried. I hate for him to go out like this.

you know its funny (in a painful kind of way), bad as we play tonight,

we had OPPORTUNITIES after OPPORTUNITIES to be in this game!!

IMAGINED what would happen if we executed and play BAMA FOOTBALL!!:eek2:

I am too tired to express myself. all of the posters on this board pretty much
conveyed how iI feel.

RTR!!

Turned out that Julio made the best defensive play of the game when he broke up a would be interception. Um, could JJ play both ways?

I believe the kid could join the NHL or PGA and be one of the greats. He could only be so fortunate. I like him right where he is, but that was a unbelievable pass break up on a sure int.. He is unbelievable.

I think JJ could start in the NFL right now.

He is special.

Tough loss. Whoopdie-doo! I'm going to sleep like a baby tonight then have a great day when I wake up.

There was nothing I did all season to help Bama win a game and there was nothing I did the last two games to help Bama lose a game.

Bama is my team and always will be. When I wake up in the morning, it really doesn't matter if we won or lost in the grand scheme of things. I still have responsibilities to meet, bills to pay and a son to raise.

So Utah won the game tonight. Again, whoopdie-doo. They're still Utah and we're still Alabama. They'll float away soon back to obscurity and the Tide will continue to roll.

Just like when we lost games to the likes of Central Florida, Northern Illinois and Louisiana Monroe. Heartbreaking? Yes. The end of the world? No.

Good for Utah. Go out and have yourselves a good time tonight.

Whoopdie-doo.

You're still Utah and you'll always be a middle-of-the-road team and program. Enjoy your win then go back to obscurity where you came from.

In the meantime we'll continue to build a dominating program and play for championships.

RTR!

QUESTION: Did Urban Meyer help his old team? And, how much trouble will he get in if he did?

Yes, I believe he did. Many people made a big deal out of the communication that he had with Utah before the game. 2nd question, none, talking between coaches is fair game. It is one reason why I will be pulling for Oklahoma in the Championship game. I try to be a good SEC guy but I see that no one else seems to pull for us so why should I care about them?

My observations on the game:

We did not play with any intensity.

The penalties hurt us.

The INT hurt us.

When we did get time to throw, the overthrown wide receivers hurt us. That was two probable TD's missed.

We were physically dominated on both sides of the ball.

I dont know what to say about the "D" in the first quarter. It's not like it was a secret that they run no-huddle sometime.

We did have a very good year. Better than expected.

Another great recruiting class will help.

ALL of the SHULA influenced players will be gone.

We need another good off season of S&C for sure.

I hope we have some leaders step up NOW, and help get this team ready for VT and next year.

I am excited about the future of BAMA Football!

That's the key. We were beat at our own game. They dominated both sides of the line tonight. That's where we've won all season and where we lost tonight.

Not to get off-topic, but some of you folks need to get over Shula.

In a few years this will be a distant memory, soothed by undefeated seasons and championships. This team over-achieved and should be remembered for helping turn the corner. Roll Tide!

I think one injury that hasn't been mentioned but had a big impact is Roy Upchurch. When Coffee got hurt the only RB with playing time left was Mark Ingram. And while he made some good plays, there were several times on blitzes that he missed his man leading to the pressure on JPW.

I feel that way, too. While Roy being out isn't near the impact of missing AS, he really would've helped out 2 minute offense.

Was just kidding about JJ going both ways. Figured that was obvious. :conf2:

Yeah, me too... Just having some fun with his freakish athleticism. Maybe he could be a long snapper next year. I feel as though he could do most anything he put his mind too. In honesty I believe we have some pretty good recievers as a unit. I believe it is hard to show your ability when a QB is forcing passes into double coverage and locking on to one reciever. I saw more than a few times our recievers were clearly open. With that said if I was QB I would throw to JJ often, perhaps 50% of the time, but with the pressure and movement in the pocket there was not a whole lot of opportunities to look for second, third recievers. Except for a few opportunities for big plays. In which case a overthrow occured or the short ball that was picked when JJ clearly had both men beat to the corner. When time was given there was a failure to "hook up" with recievers.

What I saw tonight was a lack of depth on the offensive line and gaping holes in the secondary.

That being said, it also shows what an outstanding job CNS did all year disguising our weaknesses and utilizing our strengths, I am excited about the possibilities for this team in the coming years, when the depth and talent are in place.

There is an SEC rule that says SEC coaches cannot help other coaches outside of the league.

This is a tough loss to swalow. Congrats Utes on your win. A lot of blame can be spread around on this loss. There was no qb pressure put on their quarterback to amount to anything. Our cover corners were being beat, and we could go on. But thank you team and Coach Saban for a great year. And, yes, we can't lay all the blame at Andre's feet and I'm not, but his poor decisions, and whoever else was involved with him certainly hurt the team tonight. I thank coach Saban for his actions sending Andre home, thinking more of the team than one player. I wish Andre well in life. Well I've said my two cents. Roll Tide !!!

Yes, I sure Urban M has a big grin on his face tonight. That's OK, we are continuing to improve and his turn is coming. Eventually, we will put a stop to the spread.

There was no qb pressure put on their quarterback to amount to anything.

This was due solely to their line's ability to get away with holding under the refs' noses. The same thing happened during the Florida game.

I wonder: Did the spread come as a result of the refs' unwillingness to call holding as a way to take advantage of it, or did the refs' unwillingness to call holding come as a result of the spread? It's a chicken or egg thing. The spread can't succeed without classic holding; but the definition of holding seems to have changed the last three years. Unless you get the defender in a headlock, it's not holding anymore.

So...now defenses have to adapt.

Quit locking threads and let people vent.

I have seen several threads locked tonight for no apparent reason. We are simply frustrated by our beloved team's performance tonight. The threads I have seen locked haven't put down any individual players, so let people vent. We will talk about recruting and next season tomorrow. Roll Tide. Of course, I expect this to be shut down pretty quickly.

utah was the best team we played this year, and this game showed that. i feel sorry for florida in the bcsnc game. oklahoma is going to smoke them. we have a lot of work to do and improvement to make at o-line and qb.

RTR. another 12-2 year next year is about the best we can hope for. but on the positive side, the days of worrying about tennessee and auburn are over.
