Link: Gueye to Transfer

This is a surprise, but aside from the two blocks and five additional fouls to give, it doesn't really hurt... Best if luck to him, as I expect him to find a low major school where the competition allows him to excel...

Gueye has a chance to be a very good basketball player. All he has to do is learn to catch an inlet pass, pass, shoot, shoot free throws, dribble, make a layup, and play defense without fouling three times in two minutes.
Other than that the Basketball world is his oyster.
This is like a baseball player who strikes out in 97 of 100 at bats transferring because he say's the coach won't give him the steal sign.
I'm slighted by this, and the reason is very simple- His total ineptitude offensively is one of the biggest reasons that we were forced to play, "Our style of play".
I blame no one for looking to better their chances by transferring, but Moussa better get better in a big hurry or he ain't gonna be factor anywhere at any level, unless he's planning on transferring back to middle school.
Bye Moose!
sip

You are exactly right. He had probably the worst set of hands I have ever seen. Being 7 foot doesn't mean you have basketball skills automatically, but I wish him luck at wherever he ends up.

Frankly if Jacobs will commit to getting in shape and put forth the effort to learning to rebound consistently, he already has a decent offensive skill set. Jacobs could be an Erwin Dudley type player if he'll just commit to making the effort. If he doesn't, his minutes may be limited with Engstrom, Taylor, and Hales coming in next year. I am already excited about our prospects next year.

I'm praying that the light bulb turns on for him

I really don't think he was a project. Well, he wasn't supposed to be a project.

Then we need to seriously reevaluate our scouting department. Moose literally had no offensive game at all and was a decent shot blocker. The most shocking thing about him was his seemingly total lack of knowledge about the game of basketball. I'm not sure he is currently aware of how to set a screen without moving.

The only style of play that he is going to be better at is a style of play against less talented competition.

He was actually ranked in the top handful of juco players that came out that year. I never saw any film on him, so, as you say, it's on our evaluators, but he was sought after. In fact, he was supposed to be much less of a project than Eng. I guess they didn't pay attention to the fact that Eng was a highly ranked handball player in Sweden and Moose probably grew up playing soccer... :D

[TD]Anthony Grant and the Crimson Tide men's basketball program landed a huge commitment on Monday, literally and figuratively, when they received a pledge from junior college center Moussa Gueye. The 7-foot, 280-pound star from Lake Land College in Mattoun, Illinois chose Alabama over offers from Indiana, Texas, USC and Valparaiso.

He was also highly recruited by Texas and Indiana. He didn't play his 2nd year of JUCO, but as a freshman he average 10 point, 9 rebounds, and 4 blocks per game.

This link has him rated as the #5 JUCO prospect in the nation. In front of him is Carl Hall. Yes, that Carl Hall. Behind him is Kiel Turpin. We also recruited Turpin really hard, but he signed with Florida State. I looked Turpin up. He averaged 5 points and 3 rebounds in 15 minutes per game for the Noles this past season.

I remember watching this when we signed him and thought "Hey we signed a lefty", but Moussa isn't a lefty so I wonder if that's really him in the vid.

Well I hope out staff isn't relying on the "experts" opinions of potential recruits. From the moment I saw him play for bama it was obvious he doesn't understand the game.

As far as Texas and Indiana offering him, Texas I could care less about and Indiana either made a mistake or he never really had an offer.

I really hope engstrom comes back 100% next year.

I think that signing a JUCO should be only if he can contribute immediately and fills a specific need. Foreign guys who haven't played the game very long I would classify as a project. Engstrom was and still is to some extent a project. Hopefully we'll see it pay off next year. Gueye was injured for about 2 years before he began to actually play again. Maybe it was rust, but I tend to think not.

Just my opinion, mind you, but I think losing Engstrom for the season hurt as bad as losing Steele for the shorter amount of time. If for no other reason, Carl was improving and would have continued to get better and better as the season went on, and actually would have given us solid minutes in the post as a difference-maker. I don't mean 15 pts, 10 boards, but better than what we got from a quality standpoint. Looking forward to seeing him healthy, as he was not necessarily a turnover waiting to happen.

Do some of these posts not count as player bashing? He is still at Bama and did his best for us. Was he the best player, no but he still worked hard for the University and deserves more respect. I wish him the best and am thankful for his contribution.

Did I miss the "Thank you Alabama" speech Moussa gave? How he appreciated the opportunity? How he will cherish his years here?

Gueye also is quoted in the release.

"I really enjoyed my time at Alabama," he said. "People have been very supportive during my two years here. Since I have my degree, I just decided I wanted to leave and try and continue to get better. I love my coaches and teammates – they helped me get better. I have nothing but great memories here and I am grateful for my decision to come to the University of Alabama."

Then, to me, yes, it is player bashing and we should stop......
