Border thread part II

I might be remembering incorrectly, but didn’t this involve monstrous amounts of subsidies? It also allowed a lot of Congress critters to make a tidy profit on the stock uptick that came after the announcement. Clearly, it worked out well for a lot of people.
Do you believe that the Chinese and Japanese did not spend trillions of public money to subsidize creating jobs in the public sector. To keep the Yen's value low compared to the dollar and to create nationwide programs to develop the automotive industry, the semiconductor industry and subsequently the electronics industry.

China has subsidized their steel industry for years and to maintain the Yuan pegged to the dollar.

It seems to me that it would be important to understand some of the basics of international business to appreciate how US economic policy has led to hallowing out of entire segments of our middle class. It is a kitchen table issue not conservative or liberal.

What I see in small southern towns is a reluctance of a segment of the population to do honest hard work like construction that they used to do. We've had to rely on immigrants to do the tough work.
There is a flood of new jobs in fields related to climate change and also rebuilding our infrastructure thanks to Biden's leadership. Anybody wants to just gripe about lost jobs must not realize unemployment is at record lows and has been for a while.

I'm thrilled the semiconductor industry is beginning to build plants in America. Should of been here all along. I'm also glad for the jobs it will provide. Maybe Biden had something to do with, maybe not. Haven't read up on it. I will search conservative sources though, just don't trust liberal ones.
Is Wikipedia liberal?

Yes. Talk to any small business operator or farmer and will tell you why immigrants, largely Hispanic, do a much better job for them.
Our southern border immigration in terms of the economic viability of the country is a strong plus for the future unlike the closed society in Japan whose economy is now weighed down by a lack of population growth.
We should be talking about how to plan for it and contain the illegal/harmful aspects of it because it is going to continue regardless of our politics.

the problem of course is that most of the "harms" are BS and the only thing illegal is the act itself.

You're quoting articles, I'm seeing reality in small towns in south Alabama. Jobs coming back to America is one of Trump's main platforms, so any companies that wish to open plants are appreciated and will continue under Trump. CNN articles really show a Biden bias don't they, wow.

And I am seeing reality in small town North Georgia.

" The Qcells Dalton factory is the largest manufacturing plant of its kind in the Western Hemisphere and the first solar panel plant expansion since the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). "

"... The completed Dalton expansion created 510 additional solar factory jobs and will also assemble two new solar products: ..."

" An electric vehicle battery plant set to be built by two Korean giants in Bartow County by 2025 will hit $5 billion in investment value and will generate $40 million in tax revenue per year, according to a filing with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs. "

" Hyundai and SK signed a memorandum of understanding to work together on a U.S. battery plant in November. Gov. Brian Kemp announced in December that the investment would come to Cartersville and would total between $4 billion and $5 billion, creating 3,500 jobs."

I live in the Cartersville area and have in-laws that live in Dalton.

My inlaws have driven past QCell plant in Dalton.

The plant in Cartersville is in the process of being built. I have driven past it numerous times.
And I get to hear from the local rednecks how the battery plant is going to "steal" all the power from the local power plant (GA Power - Plant Bowen) and we are going to be left with no power.

But you go check out the Conservative media because they can be trusted.
It's not like they have never lied about anything.

Its blowing up around here.

In the past 3 years, manufacturing plants that were here have expanded, and distribution/warehouse centers have sprung all over the place. Companies are moving in so there appears to be a demand for them.

The housing market is insane.
They can't build housing fast enough.
We constantly get letters from realtors and investment groups looking to buy our place or sell our place for us.

Even the housing market from the early 2000's wasn't this crazy.

We have an enormous solar project in my county that will help offset losing the paper mill in Courtland. Hundreds of jobs.

The local economy is booming. More construction downtown in the past year than in 20 years before, or longer.

Do you live in Decatur, Chukker? I understand if you prefer not to answer. The Courtland comment made me curious.

I used to live in Loretto, TN. Our band played in Decatur quite a bit. Decatur CC, Burning Tree CC?, Point Mallard balloon fest, and a couple of bars. One of the bars is right by the bridge and floats on the river. Can't remember the name.
I bet we have friends in common. I didn't play in a band, but lots of my friends did. We meet once a week to swap stories and have a few beers. The stories they tell...

I did get to go to a few road shows provided I help with the equipment. Sometimes they would let me work the strobe light. :)

Very cool. There are some good musicians in Decatur.

I think he’s saying the same thing this Fox News anchor and Oklahoma Republican senator have said. There was a bill, but it got torpedoed because Trump wanted it gone.

If your position was that she wasn’t enough of a leader to override congressional republicans fear of what Trump would do to them, then at least say that. Couching it in a general “lack of leadership” argument is disingenuous at best.

My position is that she did nothing of substance. I've asked multiple times for the report she submitted on her work, her proposals, her suggested legislative action, heck anything. One article was posted about some development money that the country involved said wasn't enough and didn't help anything.

The bill in question was a terrible bill that wouldn't fix anything. You may think it was the best bill ever and if passed would have changed the world, but it wasn't and it wouldn't. You could pass it and still have the same issues.
